The Enterprise Ethereum Alliance (EEA), a consortium made up of more than 300 organizations united to develop enterprise solutions based on the Ethereum blockchain, announced yesterday a strategic alliance with the Hyperledeger group, an initiative promoted by The Linux Foundation created to advance cross-industry blockchain technologies.
According to a press release published on the official blog of the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance (EEA) , the two teams joined forces to “accelerate adoption of blockchain technologies for business. They comment that having similar objectives, the idea is to work together instead of competing against each other:
“The Enterprise Ethereum Alliance sponsors the development of specifications and standards for enterprise blockchain networks, with a focus on those aligned with the broader Ethereum ecosystem. Hyperledger fosters the development of open source software for establishing, managing, and connecting enterprise blockchain networks. Thus, our two organizations have similar objectives, with highly complementary approaches to achieving them.
Our two organizations have similar objectives, such as broadening and strengthening the community around and the adoption of enterprise blockchain technologies. What we hope to get across to the public is that anyone who ever put a “versus” between EEA and Hyperledger got it wrong; it’s now conclusively “EEA AND Hyperledger.”
Thanks to this strategic partnership, both platforms hope to build a common ground that allows developers to have more tools not only to create projects but to make them more visible to the public.
Now, EEA members workinf in compliance with Hyperledger standards can then place their developments as Hyperledger projects and vice versa.
Although the partnership was announced yesterday, the teams confirmed that there are already ongoing developments working under both standards even since 2017, demonstrating that this coalition is the fruit of several months of hard work.
One of the examples “Hyperledger Burrow project, an Apache-licensed implementation of the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) bytecode interpreter.” Another of the technological advances that could have provided clues to the joint work between the two platforms was the fact that Hyperledger added support for the Ethereum Virtual Machine to the Sawtooth-based networks.
They also commented that there is a working group developing Trusted Execution Environments in EEA, while Hyperledger is building a prototype implementation of said standards under the name “Private Data Objects“
