Cryptocurrencies and their underlying distributed ledger technology (DLT) are increasingly appearing in pop culture. While television and online social websites have their share of cryptocurrency media, the radio will soon witness a particular slot on the emerging asset class in an industry first.
“Get in the Game” With Cryptomania
Dubbed “Cryptomania – Bitcoin & Beyond,” the weekly show will air on Boston’s North Shore 104.9 FM. United States media broadcasters are waking to the benefits of streaming cryptocurrency focused media offerings – which undoubtedly enjoy widespread attention in the community.
However, a telling point remains that of the broadcasters responsibly portraying the volatile asset class, unlike a source of ridicule or “memes.”
Nathaniel Biddle, the founder of New England Blockchain LLC, ideated the crypto-focused radio show. As per reports, show hosts Dana McIntyre and associate Jameson Rust will illuminate bitcoin and blockchain technology in an approachable manner.
The debuting radio programme’s catchline is “Get in the game,” and aims to interested individuals the low barriers of entry and accessibility to the burgeoning cryptocurrency sector.
In the press release, McIntyre stated:
“Hosting the first weekly FM radio show on Cryptos in America is a real honor for us and highlights our commitment to bring relevant, cutting-edge content to our listening audience and the mainstream public.”
The programme will be broadcasted every Saturday at 9:30 EST. Audiences in Boston and the Merrimack Valley of Massachusetts can tune in to FM radio signal 104.9, and audiences without access to the specific station can visit NorthShore1049.com. Additionally, a Youtube channel of the Radio show is slated for a July 2018 launch. Cryptomania is expected to reach over 2 million people.
Media Coverage of Bitcoin Increasing
The crypto-focused radio show is not the first broadcast about digital assets. Bitcoin has found several honorary mentions in pop culture, including fan-favorite shows like Family Guy and the Simpsons.
In March 2018, Cheddar, a live streaming financial news network, dedicated a weekly slot every to air the show “Crypto Craze,” which aimed to provide deeper insight on cryptocurrency trading to millennials. In May 2018, the American commercial broadcast television network CBS gave a cryptocurrency Youtuber Jason Appleton, who goes by the name Crypto Crow, a TV show on CBS.
Currently, bitcoin (BTC) is represented as a currency used by unsavory characters for transactions. Notably, the apparent drive towards cryptocurrency-focussed media indicates broadcasters are following a golden rule: Give the public what they want, and they’ll come to see it.
