Amsterdam Airport lets travellers swap Euros for (BTC) and (ETH)

Geplaatst op juni 22, 2018 door Blockchain News

Passengers at Schiphol airport can now exchange their leftover Euros for Bitcoin or Ethereum at a ‘Bitcoin ATM’.

The ATM at Schiphol airport is a trial and it’s the first European airport to offer this service to travelers.

Tanja Dok, Director of Consumer Products & Services at Amsterdam airport says: “Schiphol is constantly looking for ways to innovate and provide optimum service to passengers,”

With the new Bitcoin ATM they hope to provide a useful service to travelers by allowing them to exchange Euros for Bitcoin and Ethereum. This can especially be beneficial if it’s not possible for travelers to spend their leftover Euros in their home country.

The ATM which has been installed through a partnership with the Dutch company ByeleX lets passengers deposit Euro bills. The Bitcoin ATM at Schiphol is a six-month trial aimed at exploring whether a demand for this service exists among passengers. The Bitcoin ATM, which is located in Arrival Hall 2, is also in the corridor to Departure Halls 1 and 2. Many departing passengers walk by this location. The placement additionally enables them to offer visitors to Schiphol Plaza the opportunity to exchange their euros for Bitcoin.

Herman Vissia, director of ByeleX says “We are excited that Schiphol is willing to join us in exploring ways to introduce passengers to the new cryptoreality.”

This is not the first Bitcoin ATM to be installed at an airport. Earlier this year, Brisbane Airport introduced cryptocurrency payments by teaming up with TravelByBit to allow travelers to pay digitally using the company’s digital payment platform. This partnership reinforces Brisbanes Airport’s aim to support local business and becoming a leader in the airline business.

Roel Hellemons, General Manager of Strategic Developments at Brisbane Airport, said: “Many people around the world have made money investing in cryptocurrencies and a lot of these people travel internationally, so it makes sense to offer a digital currency experience within our terminals.”
